Well, the blood culture from Griffin's line is already growing something. He has an infection in his blood. His umbilical line (UVC) was pulled and a scalp IV was started to give him antibiotics. I am terrified b/c he will need antibiotics for at least a week -- possibly much longer depending on how he does, and that scalp IV is NOT going to last more than a few days, even under the best of circumstances. He really has no other sites for a peripheral IV or a PICC line. His little veins have just been beaten up too much. But he has to have a way to receive his IV antibiotics, which means they may have to take him to the OR and place something more permanent. The thought of my little boy going under general anesthesia makes me sick. Of course this is not a great option b/c then he will have a foreign body in his little body, thus another site for infection. Plus you can't place a central line like that while you are septic, so if he looses this line before repeat cultures come back negative, I don't know what we will do. He has just been through so much and he is barely a week old.

Sheila,
Little Griffin is so adorable. He looks so much like big sister Regan!! I bet it is hard being away from her so much but wonderful to see the family resemblance in your children. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Please call on me if you need anything.
